As you might realize by the site title, my name is Dave. I’m a retired Industrial Electrician living in Ontario Canada.
As an Industrial Electrician I had to troubleshoot electrical problems in machinery, rewire panels and program PLC’s to name just a few of my tasks. It was a great career but one day I finally decided it was time to move on and spend more time with my family and on myself.
What is a PLC?
Some of you might not know what a PLC is. A PLC is a “Programmable Logic Controller”. PLC’s are the computers that control industrial machinery. They have inputs for things like push buttons, product senors, limit switches and other things. The PLC’s are programmed to read those inputs and perform a given task depending on them. They activate outputs that can control things like pneumatic cylinders to move parts, motors to turn on cooling, control the filling of containers or lights to warn machine operators of a fault. They are programmed differently that regular computers and are designed specifically to work in a manufacturing environment.
After retiring I wanted to continue with my passion to troubleshoot, program, learn, create and build things. And with all the extra free time I now have decided to share some of the things I built or are in the process of building. Thus this website was born.
This site is a “WORK IN PROGRESS“
Use the links above to explore the site. But please be aware that this site is a constant “work-in-progress” and not all sections have been completed. I’ll be adding to them in between projects one by one as time goes on.
Also, if you notice any errors and/or omissions or have a question, please feel free to leave a comment in the “Ask Questions/Leave Comments” section found at the end of each post. I’ll do my best to answer your questions or fix things up.
Making, Playing, Creating. It’s great, but mostly it’s all about having fun!
